Dr. Mistry is awesome, I'm a long-time fan of his games and I've been trying to play his Space Pirates From Tomorrow title still with no luck--I suck so badly at controlling the spaceship XD

Also it's great to see how developers handle their title releases and what tactics they use to plan game releases, etc. Plus it's also good to know that there's more stuff planned--anticipating many titles that are in the works right now, some of which are planned for DreamBuildPlay.

I would suggest picking a picture of John Wayne . In fact if this were my forums, everyone's picture would be John Wayne. Total badass.

Yeah Mega Man is one of my favorite series.
Thanks, Transmute has come a long way, but it is finally starting to come together. Can't wait to show more of it.

Definitely, feel free to talk all you'd like about it or anything else--I always enjoy conversing with developers about their projects, etc.

By the way, are you planning on submitting anything for DBP?

I'm working on trying to get Vacant Skies ready, but time will tell whether it will be ready enough.
Right now Vacant Skies is one of the guinea pig projects for Transmute. I've been doing most of my actual engine/editor testing working on pieces for Vacant Skies.
Xalterax has also been using on his game Last Age, and has been supplying me with a ton of feedback for the engine/editor also.
Actually hoping to push the new build sometime this week. The Character/Animation builder has taken a big chunk of time to get everything working correctly, so it has been a couple of weeks since my last version update.

That's very exciting to have two very awesome-looking Xbox Indie RPG's made with Transmute.

I'm looking forward to both titles, and ever since I saw Vacant Skies I was a fan. It seems like this year's DBP contest will be amazing indeed, and do you know of all of the DBP submissions are released to the XBLIG Market--or is it just the winners?

Not sure officially how they are released (winner wise), but I would imagine all submissions could eventually be released to the XBLIG market (the ones that didn't win) based on whether they get finished and pass peer review. Thats my idea though, so don't take my complete word on it. Will have to see if can find any info on the DBP site.

Gotcha, because from what I've seen the submissions themselves all deserve an official release on the market, especially Last Age and Vacant Skies to name a few.

No matter, the contest will be a hard decision--the judges really have their work cut out for them, heh.

I bet a lot of the DBP games never make it to XBLIG. There are a lot of entries. Some of them go PC or XBLA (winners sometimes) as those are more lucrative markets. My entry (assuming I don't win) will be headed to XBLIG and probably a later PC release too.

How many entries would you guess will be entered from now until the official ending date?

And it'd be cool if they let the community pick a game--like a Indie Game community favorite that would be published on the marketplace. I'd definitely vote for it--or even better, making exclusive to the XNA community.

I honestly don't remember how many there were last year but there were many, many pages of them. There were a lot of games I never heard of before which seems to indicate that many people entering games are not part of the XBLIG community.

Mr. Kris--you're entering World of Chalk for DBP, or your Volcano/Cowboy title? I don't think I figured that one out.

Also World of Chalk looks like great fun--I really like how you can attack and such, which is always a great touch in a platformer rather than only being able to use jumping to your advantage.

If my big Project 'Lost' is ready for DBP and doesn't win, I'll with-hold releasing it on the 360 until after the PC release; That way if it does well, I'll not be struggling to sell it at $3 as it will be a successful PC game released for 360 and can confidently charge $5 as it will still be cheaper than the PC version.

That's a neat strategy, Quimby. Lost you say? Can't wait for details =p

Suffice it to say that VVG is totally into the Retrocade titles as well, the line-version of Frogger looks like something made right for Atari, heh.

Ideally, I'd like to package up the Retrocade titles once I've done 10 or so and release them for PC in a bundle.
I must say it was a lot of fun seeing what I could do with DataStream and it was a blast coming up with all the different modes.
Next up, I'll be doing (well, I'm planning to do) a re-imagining of Pac-man with some really cool twists that I think will breath some life into the long-stagnant genre.

Also on a side note, I'm glad to see Slyprid is now a VVGTV forum member!

Yeah Slyprid is awesome--his Transmute tool is fantastic and I'm really interested to see both Xalterax's Last Age and Slyprid's own RPG in the works Vacant Skies.--both of which use Transmute.

I believe that the Xbox Indie marketplace is due for a re-imagining of Pac-Man; Radiangames'Inferno reminded me vaguely of Pac-Man, at least in the overall maze-like environments. Also all of Radiansgames have that modernized retro look, which looks a bit difficult to emulate.

I definitely your Retrocade titles will be addicting, too--if they are like the classic arcade games, I'd bet that those that really enjoy them will play them frequently.

World of Chalk for DBP for sure. I'm wondering if I can have two titles though.... mainly since I'm collaborating on a few projects they would be entries essentially by different teams. In the past this has been done. If that were the case, I'd have to consider either Hypership or my Volcano game too.

World of Chalk will have many attacks with different weapons. We're still working on getting it all into the game though. There is still so, so much to do. Hopefully in a month the gameplay will be much, much more clear. Most of our work up until now has just been in getting the levels and editor setup to make the levels.

Very nice to hear info on WoC--I came across an XBLIG called Chalked! that seemed to have positive reviews and was in the same chalk-board theme.

XNA Roundup Backstabbery ;[

On a side note, Mr. Evan Johnson, an Xbox Indie dev and friend of mine, pointed me towards a rather unsettling and slanderous "Review" of one of my favorite Xbox Indie series "The Mind's Eye of Jupiter".

The XNA Roundup was something that I enjoyed reading despite the overly crass and hard-assed reviews, but some of them were too harsh and really it made me question why he picked games that he hated, what's the purpose in reviewing and playing something you already know you hate?

I normally don't encourage any form of trolling in any way, but I wanted to bring this to light because I personally find it to be hilarious.

If you guys do feel the need to talk smack to Mr. Iakanar, I would advise you to do so in such a way where it can't be traced back to your game studio or me as it would only encourage more and more trolling, and negative attention is not something that any of us want.

I believe this is just opinions, however he does use my review verbatim and also did so without permission--its rather slanderous, too. However I believe it would only make things worse to react to it in certain ways.

I'm not sure how to handle this, so feel free to toss some advice. Basically I think I'm just going to ignore it, because he talks even more shit to people who talk shit back to him--it turns into a swirling shit-storm of madness.

Personally I don't understand how reviewers like that keep a fan base. I would think if your serious about writing reviews you would try to keep it as professional as possible without using the amount of derogatory language as he did. I mean you can call a game bad all you want, but to go and call it the s***tiest game on the channel is poor taste. I found your review of the first one nice and informative, what I want to find in a review. His review doesn't give any decent info about the game and is more a bash on your review of the first one.

My two cents....

Yeah, I appreciate your words Mr. Slyprid. This came out of left field and I was like...wtf...since I hadn't done anything to antagonize him.

Also I think he's trying to be a written version of the Angry Video Game Nerd or something--up until this point I respected his honest opinions, however harsh they are, but an outright attack is going a bit too far.

Plus I enjoy Travis Rogers' work, and I'm more aggravated that he insulted the developer more than anything.
